Hello all!
I have an American Bulldog who loves to chew on things. Not everything however ... just my, uhm, "delicates". She'll go into the laundry basket and pick out my stuff, leaving my husbands alone (brat). Tips on how to break this habit? Thanks!

Mon, October 3, 2005 - 5:29 AMKeep your clothes up away from her, or keep a child gate over the doorway.. haven't really heard a way to fix that other than spraying bitter apple on your clothes!!! haha! Just make sure she doesn't get into them, friend of mine had a dog that died from it, caused intestinal blockage

Re: Chewing
Sun, June 3, 2007 - 3:29 AMCooper was a chewer when he was young. We were told to supervise his chewing, offering up chew toys whenever he got chewy. This worked well in conjunction with bitter apple. I still have to lock up my shoes, but by the time Coop was two I'd found I often forget to close the door on our shoe room, and things are OK. Undies have to go in a hamper. Coop seems to be a bra man. :)
Quincy is very chewy, people included. I've had less luck here, but I have noticed that "Q" runs and grabs a toy now when guests arrive. He still has to be told not to jump up or nip at people's ankles, but it's easy to see that he's trying very hard to please us.
We were taught not to use the dog's name when upbraiding him, but rather use a command word. The dog should have only positive associations with their name.
